What should I expect during my first session?
Your first appointment will provide an opportunity for your counsellor to get to know you, discuss your reasons for seeking services, and your hopes/goals for counselling (if known). As the client, you always have the right to decide the pace and extent to which you disclose personal information.
-
How many appointments will I need?
Progress in counselling is unique to each individual, and takes several factors into account. These include, but are not limited to, the severity of one’s symptoms, client/counsellor therapeutic rapport, clarity of goals, engagement/motivation to implement change, etc. As the client, you have the right to end counselling at anytime, for any reason. If you are concerned about time/financial restrains, addressing this upfront will help ensure you get the most out of your sessions.
